How this works
Full methodologyAfter each sale most marts publish a short report: a few lines of comment, average prices by weight band, the top lots. We fetch those reports, read the figures out of them and file one record per sale. Nothing is typed in by hand and nothing is estimated from hearsay.
Where a mart states an average we use it as given. Where it only lists lots, we work an average out from those lots and mark it as derived. Cattle are quoted per kg liveweight, sheep per head. A mart that has stopped publishing simply stops appearing in the weekly tables; its old reports stay.
